Koinonia
The Shared Fire of the Redeemed
Draw near and lean in closely, for the Spirit of Truth is even now whispering a mystery that will set your heart ablaze and illuminate the very corridors of your calling. As you disciple the precious, eternal souls entrusted to your care, I want to invite you into a sacred visualization; a holy parable written into the very laws of the physical world by the delicate, yet mighty, Finger of God.
Open the eyes of your heart, dear discipler, and let us walk together into this revelation.

The Sacred Glow: The Mystery of the Holy Ember
My dear fellow laborer in the harvest, come and stand with me before a crackling hearth in the quiet of a winter’s night. Watch how the flames dance in a rhythmic worship, casting long, golden shadows that stretch like reaching hands against the walls. In this fireplace, there is a secret of the Kingdom hidden within the glowing bed of coals, waiting for those with ears to hear.
Our Father, in His infinite and nesting wisdom, has designed the coal with a peculiar and prophetic nature. Observe, for a moment, a single ember that has tumbled away from the heap. It sits alone on the cold, unforgiving stone of the hearth. At first, it glows with a fierce, defiant orange; a remnant of the glory it once shared. But as the minutes pass, a tragic transformation occurs. You can almost see the “breath” of the fallen world pressing in on it, heavy and suffocating.
The vibrant, pulsing orange fades to a dull, bruised crimson, and then to a ghostly, suffocating grey. The core, which was once a miniature sun of life-giving heat, begins to stiffen and succumb to the chill. Without the company of its brothers, the fire within it doesn’t just struggle; it simply… vanishes. It becomes a stone once more, cold and silent.

But look back at the center of the hearth!
There, the coals are piled high, a mountain of molten glory, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. Scientists, in their clinical observations, tell us of a marvel they call “infrared radiation.” But we who walk in the light of the Spirit recognize it as a physical echo of a celestial truth. These coals literally “breathing” life into one another. They are engaged in a constant, invisible exchange of radiance; a flow of heat that passes from one heart of fire to the next in a seamless circle of grace.
The temperature of the group is not sustained by the strength of one “super-coal,” nor by the brilliance of a single spark. It is sustained by the shared, collective resonance of them all. They keep each other alive. They are a community of heat, a sanctuary of warmth where the cold has no dominion.

In the Kingdom, we call this Koinonia.
Beloved, understand that Koinonia is so much more than a polite handshake in a hallway or a scripted greeting in the foyer. It is the sacred friction of souls. It is the holy exchange of the Spirit’s warmth, where my victory becomes your strength and your prayer becomes my oxygen.
When a disciple begins to pull away from the Body; perhaps through the stinging wounds of hurt, the deceptive whispers of pride, or the sheer, bone-deep exhaustion of the journey; they are stepping out of the “radiance zone.” They are moving onto the cold stone of the hearth, believing the lie that they can burn just as brightly in isolation.
My heart breaks to tell you this, but the world is a chilling place. It is a vast, frosty wilderness designed by the enemy to sap the spiritual vitality of the believer, one degree at a time. The “cold air of the age” is relentless; it seeks every crack in our armor and every crevice in our resolve to extinguish the flame of devotion that was once a roaring fire.

But oh, the breathtaking beauty of the Body!
In the warmth of our gathered fellowship, in the shared heat of desperate, intercessory prayer, and in the communal feasting upon the Living Word, our fires are not just maintained; they are multiplied. When your brother’s light is dim, your glow sustains him, shielding him from the frost. When your own light flickers in the wind of trial, his radiance carries you through the night until your strength is renewed.
Remind your disciples, with all the tenderness of a nursing mother and the unwavering strength of a protective father: You were never meant to stay on fire alone.
We are not solitary candles flickering precariously in a gale; we are a bonfire of the redeemed, a conflagration of grace that the gates of hell cannot quench. We are each other’s warmth. We are each other’s keepers of the flame. We are the hearth of God on earth.
Go forth now in the overflowing, incandescent Love of Christ, dear Discipler. Do not fear the cold of this world, for the Holy Spirit goes before you, preparing the hearts of your students to be gathered into His glorious, warming light. You are a carrier of the Fire. You are a steward of the Glow.
Share it freely, pour it out lavishly, and watch with wonder how the fire only grows brighter the more it is given away.
Amen.
