Awake, O Beloved Church! Beware of Lying Wonders Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Awake, O Beloved Church! Embrace the Divine Call of the Holy Spirit!

The Sacred Call to Discernment

The hour we find ourselves in is nothing short of extraordinary! The Spirit of the Almighty is stirring mightily among us, calling us to awaken from our complacency and to put on the full armor of God. As we survey the landscape of our world, we encounter a dazzling array of miraculous claims, some genuinely divine, while others are cunningly deceptive. Our compassionate Father speaks to us with a tender urgency: not every wonder that dazzles our eyes carries the sweet fragrance of Christ. Today, He invites us to stand watchful, our hearts brimming with love, yet our minds sharpened by the unyielding truth of His Word.

1. Test the Spirits

“Beloved, believe not every spirit; but try the spirits whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1). This is not merely a cautionary note; it is a sacred mandate entrusted to us. In the quiet moments of prayer and reflection, let us earnestly seek the Holy Spirit to grant us discerning eyes and attentive ears. Our first response must always be one of submission to God’s holy Word. Every vision, dream, or prophetic utterance must be measured against the sacred plumb line of Scripture. If it strays from the divine blueprint of God’s revealed truth, it cannot possibly be from Him. Additionally, accountability within our faith community serves as a protective shield against deception. We must bring every utterance and revelation before mature believers, those who walk in integrity and love us enough to share hard truths with grace and kindness.

2. Measure by the Word

The Bible remains our unwavering standard and foundation. No matter how spectacular a sign or wonder may appear, if it contradicts the nature and character of our Lord, His humility, His holiness, His sacrificial love, it must be firmly rejected. When a so-called miracle promotes greed, fosters jealousy, or divides the body of Christ, we are witnessing the unmistakable marks of a false wonder. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, never exalts Himself; He always lifts up the Father. Let us immerse ourselves in the Word of God, memorizing and meditating on it, allowing His truth to pulse vibrantly through our spirits. If a dazzling sign demands our attention more than the cross, we must discern that it has wandered far from the divine path.

3. Seek the Fruit

Jesus taught us, “Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). Genuine encounters with the living God yield the beautiful fruit of the Spirit: love that forgives, joy that endures, peace that surpasses all understanding, patience in trials, kindness without pretense, goodness that blesses, faithfulness that stands firm, gentleness that comforts, and self-control that honors God (Galatians 5:22–23). As we witness miracles, let us look for transformed hearts. Are we seeing reconciliation? Lives are liberated from bondage. Families restored in love and unity. These are the unmistakable signatures of the living God. Conversely, if a sign is loud yet the fruit is rotten, if it breeds confusion, fear, or arrogance, it is not of our Savior. With love in our hearts, we must turn away from such distractions, fervently praying for those ensnared in deception while standing resolutely in the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.

Let us embrace this call with holy courage and tender compassion. We are not summoned to critique with cynicism, but to stand guard in love, leading wandering souls back to the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. May our eyes remain steadfastly fixed upon His radiant face, our hearts ever attuned to His gentle voice, and our lives exude the sweet fragrance of His Spirit. Let us rise as a beacon of hope and truth in a world desperately yearning for authentic encounters with the living God. Amen.
