The Imminent Return of Christ: CHAPTER SEVEN

CHAPTER SEVEN

The Day of the Lord

A Holy Warning and Loving Call to Consecration in the Final Hour

As I write these words, my heart burns with the fire of the Holy Spirit, compelled by love and holy fear to sound the alarm in Zion. We are living in the shadow of eternity, standing on the very threshold of the Day of the Lord, a day prophesied from ancient times, a day both glorious and terrible, when the heavens will shake and the King of Glory will be revealed. The Spirit of God is stirring His people, calling us to awaken from slumber, to cast off compromise, and to walk in the fullness of holiness as we await the imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Nature of the Day of the Lord: Judgment and Mercy Intertwined

Scripture resounds like a trumpet blast with the theme of the Day of the Lord. It is a day unlike any other, when God’s righteous justice will be unleashed upon a rebellious world, yet His unfathomable mercy will envelop the faithful. Hear the ancient cry from Joel 2:1-2: “Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill. Let all who dwell in the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming. It is close at hand.” This is not a message of doom but of urgent hope, a loving warning for all who will listen.

This holy day is not merely about wrath; it is the canvas upon which God will paint the masterpiece of His redemption. The Apostle Paul declares with assurance in 1 Thessalonians 5:9: “For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Even the ancient Book of Enoch captures the grandeur of this duality: the destruction of the wicked and the vindication of the righteous. “Behold! He comes with ten thousands of His holy ones to execute judgment upon all…” (Enoch 1:9). Oh, that we would tremble at His Word, and that trembling would give birth to repentance and holy anticipation!

Wrath and Deliverance: The Choice Before Us

The Book of Revelation unveils the terrifying and majestic judgments of God (Revelation 6–19), not as random calamities, but as the necessary prelude to the triumph of the Lamb. These judgments are the birth pangs of a new creation, the final purging of wickedness before the Bridegroom comes for His Bride. We see Jesus, Faithful and True, mounted on a white horse, His eyes blazing with fire, His robe dipped in blood, He comes to judge and to make war (Revelation 19:11-16).

Let us not be deceived: the justice of God will not be mocked. The Dead Sea Scrolls echo the warning of the Teacher of Righteousness, urging the community to steadfast faithfulness in the face of encroaching darkness. This is not the hour to play games with sin or to flirt with the world. The time is short! The call is urgent!

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb: Our Blessed Hope

Amidst the sobering warnings, there is a radiant promise reserved for those washed in the blood of the Lamb, the Marriage Supper. This is the culmination of human history, the celebration that will eclipse every earthly joy. Revelation 19:7-9 shouts with joy: “Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready.” The garments are not our own righteousness, but the spotless robes given to us by Christ Himself.

The Book of Jubilee speaks of ancient feasts, but no one can compare it to the heavenly banquet prepared for those who overcome. Do you long for this day? Does your heart ache with anticipation? Beloved, let this hope purify us, even as He is pure (1 John 3:3). Let us live as those betrothed, keeping ourselves unspotted from the world, our lamps burning with holy oil.

The Urgency of the Hour: Compassionate Action Required

Jesus, our Shepherd and Judge, told of the day when He will separate the sheep from the goats (Matthew 25:31-46). This is not a parable for another time, but for now. It is a loving but sobering reminder that genuine faith reveals itself in love and action. The time for passive Christianity is over. The hour is late.

The Book of Jasher recounts the exploits and failures of God’s people, a reminder that history is shaped by those who choose obedience. Will we be found faithful? Will our hearts burn for the lost, compelled by the love of Christ to reach out in word and deed before the final trumpet sounds?

The Call to Holiness: The Bride Must Make Herself Ready

Peter’s voice echoes through the ages, pleading with the Church: “Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God…” (2 Peter 3:11-12). This is not a suggestion, dear friends, but a divine mandate. The Holy Spirit is brooding over the earth, searching for those who will consecrate themselves fully, who will refuse the compromise of Laodicea and embrace the fire of holiness.

Ancient texts like the Book of Gad remind us that holiness is not a solo journey, it is a call to community. We are to exhort one another daily, to provoke each other to love and good works, keeping our hearts soft and our eyes fixed on Jesus.

Comfort and Assurance: The Promise of Deliverance

In all these things, let us not lose sight of the comfort that pulses through the prophetic warnings. For those in Christ, the Day of the Lord is not a day to fear, but a day to long for. Revelation 21:4 promises, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…” The Book of Enoch gives the vision of a future with no sorrow, only joy for those who overcome. Hold fast to this hope! Endure, for soon our suffering will turn to everlasting joy.

Conclusion: A Spirit-Filled Life of Watchfulness and Love

The hour is later than we think. The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come!” Let us rise up in the power of the Holy Spirit, laying aside every weight and sin that so easily entangles, and run with perseverance the race marked before us. Let us fill our lamps with oil, trimming the wicks with watchful prayer and passionate love. Let us not be found lukewarm, but burning with holy zeal for the return of our Lord.

This is my plea to you, heed the loving warning of Scripture, yield to the refining fire of the Spirit, and set your gaze on the soon-coming King. The Day of the Lord is at hand! May we be found faithful, holy, full of love, and ready to welcome Him with shouts of joy. The great celebration awaits. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
