Teaching on Divine Purpose and Perfection
God, in His infinite wisdom and love, designed each of us with a purpose in mind—perfection and alignment with His divine will. Understanding this foundational truth is crucial in grasping the depth of our relationship with our Creator and our responsibilities.
In the beginning, God created humanity in His own image (Genesis 1:27), embedding within us the capacity for perfection and holiness. This divine image entails the abilities to think, to choose, and to love—mirroring God’s qualities, albeit in a finite sense. Thus, we were crafted to exhibit perfect harmony with God’s character and will.
The Role of Free Will:
God’s gift of free will is central to our existence. This gift allows us to make choices, providing us the freedom to align with God’s will or to diverge from it. Philippians 2:13 states, “For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Here, we see that God not only guides our desires to align with His will but also empowers us to act accordingly. However, the choice to follow through remains ours.
3. The Concept of Evil as a Choice:
Contrary to some misconceptions, evil was not created by God. Instead, evil is the result of deviating from God’s perfect and holy standard—it is a choice, not an entity. When we fail to live up to the perfection for which we were created, we choose sin over righteousness. This choice represents a moral failure, akin to a malfunction in a designed machine that fails to perform its intended function.
4. Achieving Divine Alignment:
To align ourselves with God’s perfect will, we must:
- Seek Knowledge: Delve into the Scriptures to understand God’s character and expectations.
- Pray for Guidance: Ask God to shape our desires to mirror His and to strengthen our will to act on those desires.
- Practice Obedience: Consistently choose actions that reflect God’s will, thereby transforming our inherent potential into actual righteousness.
5. The Importance of Choice:
Every day, we face decisions that either confirm or deny our commitment to God’s design for us. By choosing what is good, right, and true, we fulfill our divine purpose and reflect God’s perfect nature. Our choices also have eternal significance, shaping our destiny and our relationship with God.
Conclusion:
God created us with the potential for perfection, embedding within us the qualities necessary to reflect His character. However, He also granted us the freedom to choose. This teaching reminds us of our profound responsibility to choose wisely, aligning our actions with God’s will, thereby fulfilling our divine purpose and maintaining the perfection to which we are called.
